Montrose Welcomes You
Welcome! The City of Montrose welcomes all to our community.
If you are considering Montrose as your home, we can offer you comfort and safety in our “old historic town,” in one of our many and growing subdivisions, in our new retirement community, or its nearby assisted living center.
You can ride your bicycle to work. You can walk or ride a bicycle on our ever-growing system of trails and sidewalks (about 25 miles at present) come and try them out. They currently lead to other trails in town and will connect to surrounding towns in the not-too-distant future.
You can enjoy a picnic with family, friends, and neighbors in one of our parks. Our parks, too, are ever growing and strategically placed. They are being developed with the aid of our volunteer park and recreation commission, as monies become available, and as time and careful planning permit. Activities are planned and carried out with the help of our school district, area townships, cities, and still more dedicated volunteers.
We are a community of about 2,800 friendly people and are approximately 25 miles from the Twin Cities metro area. Well within reach of all the things you like to do occasionally, yet some distance away from the confusion and concerns within.
Here, you will find caring officials, concerned and educated staff, quality consultants, effective police and fire, and a host of volunteer organizations. There is truly something for everyone. Amenities include: US Highway 12 and Burlington Northern Railway; Xcel energy with both electric and natural gas service; Lakedale Telephone and Comcast Cable complete with phone, TV, and DSL; Citizens State Bank of Montrose; dine at five different restaurant locations and stay overnight at the bed and breakfast; repair your car, as well as your back; tan and tone your body, you can even buy, rent or fix a golf cart. These are but a few of the 50 or so businesses associated with our area Chamber of Commerce.
Please ask how you can become a chamber member.
Rounding this out further are Waste Management and the Montrose Regional Wastewater Facility. Churches, schools, and business are well represented, and growing. More are poised to come soon.
Our planning and zoning volunteers are very dedicated and concerned with bringing the best plan to our city. They and city staff are charged with delivering orderly, efficient, frugal, and futuristic ideas to the city council so that all citizens are served to the best of our abilities.
The city council recently took the lead in Wright County approving preparation of an Alternative Urban Areawide Review. The review addresses land use, transportation, city services, and also includes all environmental issues within the now 7,000 acre designated area of growth. More commercial and industrial areas are opening up and interest in filling them is being shown. To quote from “League of Minnesota Cities” magazine: “The reality of government’s role cannot, and should not, be stagnant. For government to be a tool and not an impediment, its services and regulations must continually evolve to meet current needs and expectations.”
We continue to evolve, always looking to the future, not forgetting our historic past. Your decision to join us should bring you pride, comfort, opportunity, and happiness. WELCOME to the City of Montrose. Please help us prove, “It’s good to be home.”
