Long time Fire Chief Mike Marketon continually strives to anticipate the department’s needs so it is always prepared.

“We are always looking for some good fire fighters, and trying to plan to stay ahead of (the growth) so we don’t fall behind,” Marketon said.

With 25 volunteers, the department is near its desired range of 25 to 30 members. They will all be kept busy, as the fire department responds to more than 150 calls per year. In fact, the department responded to 170 calls in 2007.

Many of the calls are medical, but one special call to Franklin Township led the fire department to aid in the delivery of a baby - the first delivery for the department.

Members of the department not only stay on top of things with ever changing equipment upgrades, but also through monthly meetings and training sessions.
